Honey Bee Is One Sweet Song

Many people are quite surprised to know that some of the best concert pianists of the 20th century often played on used or rebuilt pianos. You may wonder why they would choose to play on used upright pianos when they have all the money to buy a brand-new piano. It is similar to people who purchase old model cars only to fix them up again. It is because they believe that older cars are of better quality than their more modern counterparts. The cars may not have the technological features that contemporary cars have, but they are often sturdier and stronger.

How To Start A Career In Art

•April 3, 2012 • Comments Off

Investing in a durable and fine-tuned instruments and components is essential for musicians and performers who rely on these instruments for a living. But for band players, especially for the lead or bass guitarists, investing in the best guitar amp (amplifier) is as important as investing in a good electric guitar. Some would downplay the necessity of having a good amp and would often resort to buying a cheap, low-performing counterpart.

“I cannot sing to save my f**king life. I tried over the years because I wanted to be a triple threat. At one point I was like, ‘I gotta do it all’. But I can’t sing. I think I damaged my voice. I like to think there’s a reason I can’t sing.”

Links Found Between Harry Potter, Osama Bin Laden

•March 30, 2012 • Comments Off

For some time now comparisons between the “Harry Potter” saga and chase of Osama Bin Laden have been mentioned and, as the final movie readies for release and the word of Osama’s death spreads, the story’s inevitable subtext has come to light once more.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the first of the Potter movies, “Sorcerer’s Stone,” was released in November 2011 (just months after 9/11), in which the ongoing conflict between Harry and the evil force bent on destroying him, Lord Voldemort, was revealed.

Previously touted as “He Who Must Not Be Named,” Voldermort was first put forth as a somewhat unknown entity, much like Osama, until a course of events ensued in which he takes on a more physical and prevalent presence, which comes to a head in the last volume as he and Potter battle it out in a seismic one-on-one fight.

Those who’ve carried with the saga and who have also been exposed to Hollywood’s renditions of the 9/11 tragedy, along with the race to find Bin Laden, can notice inevitable similarities between Harry’s reluctant quest to defeat the evil force and America’s quest to find it’s public enemy number one.

Whether those echoes actually shadow a link between the series and the death of Osama is unknown, however, the theory will undoubtedly rev up even more interest in what is expected to be one the biggest blockbusters of the summer.

Jennifer Lopez, who is very close to officially signing on to host the next season of American Idol, is readying the release of a new clothing line. As you may remember, J. Last night David and I met up with our friends Emma and Josh for a night out at The Music Box in Hollywood to see the New Zealand band The Naked and Famous live in concert. David is a HUGE fan of the band so it was all his planning that got us out and to the show. He’s not a big concert fan so I was happy to encourage him. The show was really fun and we all had a great time … even Josh, despite how miserable he looks in our photo below ;)

I quite like many of the band’s songs … tho, in all honesty, I kinda felt like they all sounded very similar. The Naked and the Famous sound like Empire of the Sun but with a female vocalist. The show as packed with hipsters who looked like they fell out of the new Urban Outfitters catalog. We even ran into Audrina Patridge so … yeah, ’twas a fun show:

I promise, Josh had fun … I swear.

Tonight, my friend Ollie and I are heading out to The Greek Theater to see Lykke Li in concert. Wee! I’ve never seen her live before so … it should be a blast :D Happy Hump Day!!

Guitar Accessories: Other Essential Goodies

•March 27, 2012 • Comments Off

Precisely how rock ‘n’ roll got its name probably never will be definitively answered, but there can be no doubt that it entered popular usage thanks to a disc jockey named Alan Freed, a “wild, greedy and dangerous man” who was, in the mid-1950s, “the dominant nighttime personality on radio in New York City.” Almost exactly half a century ago he changed the name of his show to “Rock ‘n’ Roll Dance Party” and began to plug the music of black rhythm-and-blues performers as well as the young whites who began to copy and reinterpret their work.
